snow

Posted in writing on February 10, 2009 by jasonboot

this snow fell slow.

it swayed slowly from side to side, always tipping at each point.

within hours, the street was covered in the brightest white i’d seen in two months.

within 8 hours of the beginning of the snowfall, it had reached about a foot above my front door.  i ventured outside and tried to shovel as much snow as i could from around that door.  the snow was heavy and i quickly became winded.

i headed back inside to warm up.

fell asleep.

when i woke up, i couldn’t see any light coming through my window.  i tried to focus as i looked in the direction of my alarm clock.

8:13AM

there should be light.

i stumble across the cold wood paneling and get closer to my bedroom window.  i could fell the cold air radiating from the frozen glass.

it was all snow.

from top to bottom.

i quickly ran down the hallway and stubbed my toe on the loose floorboard i had been meaning to fix since last july.  i made to the frontdoor with a throbbing big toe only to find that the door wouldn’t move an inch.  i looked through the side windows.

snow.

ran to the front window facing stevenson street.

snow.

every single window.  snow.  every single door way.  snow.

i’ve been in hear for 3 days now.  no power anymore.  water won’t work (but there’s plenty of snow to drink).

i can’t hear anything.

nothing but quiet snow.

the snow that fell slow.
