i close my eyes and sway from the waves, they won’t take no for an answer.
when i lay my heavy head down, your on the other end of that line
you yell for me to hurry up but the roar erases my steps, leaving me with no way to calculate my progress
but progress is overrated, and the more things stay put, the better you’ll feel.
waves are kept out, they’re blocked by those barriers; blank slate gray and stained with bird shit.
i used to imagine running across them and jumping those empty gaps, but now i know that the water will never be safe.
not with those waves out there waiting.
